I was diagnosed type 1 in september 1997, the second year of secondary school and it was a big change for me. I had never even heard of it , let alone know anything of it.
The only reason I got diagnosed was because a teacher had notice some weight loss . I was quite active so just thought it was because of my running.
Once diagnosed and asked about symptoms it all made sense. Mine were-
- weight loss
- thirsty
- tired.
I got admitted to the children's ward and luckily only spent the night there. It was a big life change. To be honest I dont remember much of my teen year with it and I dont think I tried as hard as should of.
I started working full time and in my early 20's and I really should of looked after myself with it. Think I hit a rebellious stage and think it has affected my health slightly.
Since getting with my current partner I have focused on it and glad he is there to support me. I have put him through a lot with my hypos and have sometimes wondered how he puts up with it and if he ever worries when I'm alone with the kids.
This is my estimate of how I think my sugars are , 50% hypos, 30 normal (4-10 for me )& 20% above 10. I really need to work on my hypos.
My first pregnancy was full of hypos and 999 calls as my sugars are so erratic . I tried my hardest with caleb to get my hba1c down and I did. But my 2nd one wasn't as good at only 8 % at end of pregnancy which I believe was the reason why esmae was 8 lb. 6 and give us a scare.
Its so hard and I really wish there was a cure for it.
So currently my health means-
a- Im a diabetic,
B- suffer from mild high blood pressure
c- have eye problems but currently discharged from eye infirmary &
d- mild kidney problems, next appointment I'm going to ask about it.
So as of a month ago my hba1c was 9% and I've just had my bloods re-done as I have clinic in 2 weeks and hoping it has come down a bit.
Im never hospital free and wish I was.
Thanks for reading there is more to come xx
Appointments- 15th august 2pm- nurse check up x Every thing went well. I got a few things off my chest as I always just say Im doing this , this and this but never say how I truly feel. The nurse said Im doing an amazing job especially with pumping and looking after 2 kids.
30th August-clinic 08:40 am- The appointment went well except for caleb having a tantrum all the way through. :-D . The dr praised my improvment and is trying to help. I recently got discharged from the hospital for my eyes but the dr isn't too happy so I will be expecting another appointment or at least an explanation why I was discharged next diabetic appointment, this should be in january and by this time caleb will be in nursery so will just be me and esmae which wont be as bad. More blood tests and a coeliac screening.
Next appointment -TBa
